 Shounak Nandi

Mommy wasn’t there when she was born.
Amidst enormous obstacles she came out to see the first light…
She could see the destiny.
All she needed is a few tiny steps; but there you go, in between, vultures and scavengers, lurking for her flesh.
She never fears them. As she has never learnt what fear is. Mommy never taught her to be scared.
All she knows is to walk till the tides take her away…
Slow, yet steady, Little turtle won the Race of survival.

Silence and me

   Sourav Sarkar

Amidst a day spent in a daze
Silence has got a sound presence.

The morning starts with an urge to top,
I dream to fight the world and cop.
Noon comes with a gloomy face,
Yes it’s hard to match up with the pace.
Evening finds a feeble me
A cigarette in hand, and an urge to be free.
The night gives me a mocking laugh,
“See I told you itzz gonna be tough.”

Yes it was enough for me to CRY;
A perfect stage set to pretend and lie.

Reviewing the day, I found,
People were so busy to speak;
That I ‘listening’ was,
Considered an aged habit.
“Yes SILENCE; can you hear me??
It is you the culprit are.”
I had admired you every night
Surely I feel now I was out of my sight.

Silence answered in the cloak of a chill;
With a pen and a paper I found myself sitting still.
The sobs were vanishing as the morning is about to follow,
Silently I started dreaming again for tomorrow.

Turbulence

 SUMANA SAHA

Fight the urge to fade away,

Fight the urge to give up,

Fight the urge to forget the world

And live as you want to.

Fight the thing that’s holding you back,

Fight the thing that makes you cry,

Fight the thing that’s causing a storm,

And not letting you rise.

Fight to raise your dead hope,

Fight to succumb to your fears,

Fight to stop the fire, the people

Have intentionally lit inside.

Fight like you’ve never fought before,

Fight like a true Crusader,

Fight like the world’s at your fight,

And win the fight outright.

Fight for everyone, they deserve it,

Fight for your great, big family,

Fight for yourself and your soul,

So you can live in peace.

Fight so that you can rise,

Fight so that you can look around,

Fight so that you are the hero we deserve,

And also the hero we need.

Fight and your fire will be rekindled,

Fight and you will be a hero once more,

Fight to remain in the minds of people,

As the brave Dark Knight of lore.

A Difficult but Necessary Solution

RESHAM DAS

While the number, intensity and destruction of earthquakes are following a hike in last 5-6 years all over the world, it’s becoming very much essential to implement a forecasting system which would warn people about an upcoming earthquake a relevant time span ago. Till date, science and technology invented the forecasting mechanism for storms, cyclones, and almost every kind of climatic occurring but not for an earthquake. But recently, a group of geologists discovered a new concept which may help the prediction of a coming earthquake with almost exact date and time!

According to this concept, if the number of free electrons at the lower layer of ionosphere over a certain region increases abnormally, there’s a chance of earthquake in that region, whose magnitude and intensity would depend on the concentration of free electrons at the lower ionosphere! But how is the free electrons at ionosphere related with the tectonic activity many kilometers under ground? Well, it’s a noble gas called Radon with an atomic number 86, which links these two factors. When a tectonic movement starts deep beneath the earth, due to sheer collisions, Radon gas stored inside earth crust, comes out from the region and moves upwards. At ionosphere, already the gases stay in ionic condition due to extreme temperature, and so when Radon joins them, the electronic concentration rises! Therefore, keeping an eye on the lower ionospheric electron concentration, the people below can be warned about a coming tremor, in this way. Even the time of the shock can be calculated analyzing this excess electron concentration.

It’s difficult to implement such a measurement of electronic concentrations 7 days a week, 365 days a year, but still scientists are attempting it, in order to offer security to human beings living on a turbulent earth.

আমরা বন্ধু

TRISHA GHOSH
