Well-being at Work

SUMANA SAHA

Stress has many interpretations and is one of the most ambiguous words in the English language.”

Stress is an important parameter in organizational behaviour, in part due to the increase in competitive pressures that impact workers and managers alike. Stress carries a negative connotation for some people, as though it were to be avoided. This is unfortunate, because stress is a great asset in managing legitimate emergencies and achieving peak performance. Stress, or the stress response is the unconscious preparation to fight or flee that a person experiences when faced with any demands.

Consequences of Stress

POSITIVE STRESS

Positive stress can bring performance and health benefits. The Yerkes-Dodson law shown alongside indicates that stress leads to increased performance upto a certain optimal point. Beyond that, further stress and arousal can have a detrimental effect on performance. Healthy amounts of stress are desirable to improve performance by arousing a person to action. It is in the mid range of the curve that the greatest performance benefits from the curve can be achieved. Performance declines beyond the mid point in the curve because of increasing difficulty of the task to be performed.

INDIVIDUAL STRESS

“Work-related psychological disorders are among the ten leading health disorders and diseases in the United states.”

Bengal – The Cultural Epicentre

The cultured celebrate her

The core of culture, they call.

The evenings, they say,

Bubble with life!

The perfect combination

Of Yellow and blue

Giving rise to green.

The sun above,

The rivers and seas below,

Converging where born

The green hub of the nation!

Rustling flowers for worshiping,

Using washrooms in nearby malls while roaming,

Treating tenants as poor,

And not listening to anyone.

A mandatory mango-mustard after lunch,

A compulsory nap in the afternoon,

Shouting at maids all day,

Claiming to be the best cooks,

At the most a fay or two

Without rice and fish!

Conservative to stick to own norms,

But not opposing to others’,

A culture so aged and diverse

And yet so unified and original!

Last Day in college

I was still a teen when I first stepped in

the grand old weary college buildin’

Skeptic thoughts ran through my veins

Thinking for what would happen hence

What is in there, for me waiting;

Yet the ambiguity was equally thrilling.

Ohh yes those days, thrill was easy to find

Meeting a hundred new people was first of the kind.

And in a time when friendship has lost its humane charm

I saw these people, greeting each other with open arm.

The dawn of something big was being marked

And with every new marking, time magically passed.

Sitting on the slab with a cup of tea

Idle for hours and laughter for free

Or dancing in public at the fresher’s party

Everything was so much new for me

The startup business idea which sparked over a TT game

Or narrating an amateur framed film-story without any shame

1st smoke, 1st job and many heartbreak’s silent sobs

Yes the college only has nurtured all of them.

Amidst all these one day I was twenty

And the college wished me with the people joining in plenty

The joy I felt of being someone special for one day

Yes there were gratitude hidden behind that I could not say.

Soon a time came, when being in home felt boring

And every day we surely had some reason for college going

An uncanny grace used to attract us and with time slowly

the people and the building became the part of an extended family.

In a world where happiness is measured with happenings

The college had a subtle definition of finding pleasure

While lakhs were spent to have an annual cultural college evening,

Here a normal college day used to be more eventful in nature.

And now today when its time to say Adios

I could not figure out what exactly will I miss the most.

Is it the college and with all the boring lectures?

Or the friends made here, who will stay I know, forever.

A new life awaits which will open new doors for better future

Yes I had always craved for this only forever.

Then why is this blank feeling which is making me low?

The uncertainty of the greater prospects is also not thrilling me now.

Is it for because I am missing my college days?

Or because I realized no good thing forever stays.

College Life Cycle

SATYABRATA BANERJEE

Isn’t it crazy how we can look back 4 years ago and realize how much everythinga has changed? The amount of people that have left  your life, entered and stayed. The memories you won’t forget and the moments you wish you did. Everything. It’s crazy how all that happened in just one year.

How lucky I am to have something that makes saying Goodbye so hard!

We’ve changed.

SUMANA SAHA

fightingfriends

What happened to us?
Who can we trust?
We are not the same
It’s such a tired game
We all lie
We all cry
Why do we even try?
This life is too short
To live with hate
We can’t go back
It’s just too late.
I’ve tried to save you
But there’s nothing left for me to do
You’re always saying that it’s not you
But I know deep down that
That’s a lie
So there’s no reason left to try
So here we go
Time to say no
To walk away with nothing left to say
No more lies
Only goodbyes.
